Guten tag!! 10+ hours of flights later, we have arrived in Münster, the bicycle capitol of Germany. Slightly sleep deprived and generally unsure of what time it is, we're resting up today before our musical adventures begin tomorrow. For Ryan and Kari, this is the first time either has been to Europe. Veteran travelers Tim, Andrew, and Matt have already warned the others about some key differences, namely how the water is always sparkling (or "with gas"), the incredibly long words, and how we probably won't be able to plug anything into the walls.
The real adventure begins tomorrow at the Summerwinds Festival as we lead two days of masterclasses and workshops at Musikhochschule Münster. Summerwinds presents over 40 concerts and this year is held June 27 - September 7, 2014. A festival for wind instrument artists, Summerwinds is also hosting some of our musical idols this year, like clarinetist Sabine Meyer and her Trio de Clarion, along with oboist Albrecht Mayer.
What was our favorite part of Germany today?
Tim: I wasn't expecting to, but I really enjoyed our international flight on Lufthansa, especially how there was a movie screen in the back of every seat. I watched The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug and got it to sync up perfectly with Andrew's screen!
Ryan: Immediately when when arrived in Germany I was hunting for a good bratwurst. Luckily, street food is plentiful, and my curry brat hit the spot.
Andrew: Lufthansa was an awesome airline. Great food, great service, and so many great movies to watch. Today was a day of sequels: The Hobbit 2, Captain America 2, and The Amazing Spiderman 2.
Kari: When we arrived in Münster, I was in love with all of the small cafes and bakeries, the cobblestone streets, and the best cappuccino I've ever had in my entire life!
Matt: There are so many bicycles here.
