Day 3 of our Alaska Travel Blog, and we've finally seen a bear!
Well...sort of...
But we began Wednesday with a morning stroll around downtown Juneau, striding alongside three massive cruise ships parked in the harbor. We finally bought a few souvenirs, found some lunch, and took it all in.
Matt and Tim took some downtime back at the Driftwood Lodge to refine their duet parts in Handel's "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba", and maybe also watched sports...
The centerpiece of our trip is a formal concert at Holy Trinity Church. We performed Gershwin, Debussy and Handel alongside exciting contemporary works in a program built upon diverse takes on convention and structure in music. One Facebook post after the concert remarked: "It was absolutely great! New, innovative music, yet something timeless about its appeal." That's what we like to hear!
What was the best part of Alaska today?
Ryan: As a coffee geek, I really enjoyed a perfect cup of coffee from the Juneau local brewing company, Heritage Coffee Co. After a long day exploring, it hit the spot.
Tim: I still can't get over the amazing landscape! There are tiny waterfalls hidden in each mountain, and seeing those still takes my breath away.
Matt: It was amazing that we sold out of our entire CD stock after giving our performance at Holy Trinity Church. This has never happened to us before, and it was a pretty cool feeling.
Kari: We were all given free t-shirts with the Juneau Jazz & Classics logo on them: two dinosaurs playing music together.
Andrew: We got our first glimpse into the night life of Juneau. We found an amazing restaurant called Rockwell and celebrated our successful concert in style.
